Inspired by online videos, I decided to build my own metal foundry. The core of the foundry is a 3 gallon tin bucket filled with plaster and coal bricks. A crucible fashioned from the top of a post driver is heated using the charcoal bricks as aluminum soda cans are added to the foundry through a hole in the lid. The metal melts and is captured inside the crucible. I used an old hairdryer to act as a bellows to control the heat inside the furnace and used a muffin tin to capture the molten metal for use in later projects.
