Paint Can Metal Foundry

Mar 2016

Inspired by this YouTube video, I built my own mini aluminum foundry out of common hardware store components. The core of the foundry is a 3 gallon tin bucket filled with plaster and coal bricks. A crucible fashioned from the top of a post driver is heated using the charcoal bricks as aluminum soda cans are added to the foundry through a hole in the lid. The metal melts and is captured inside the crucible. A hairdryer acted as a makeshift bellows system to control the tempature.
